Hanoverian Horse breeding

The Hanoverian and Rhineland are among the most important horse breeds in the world. The Hanoverian Society holds a top position in breeding and sport worldwide and also has a significant influence on many other riding horse breeds. Hanoverian and Rhinelanders cause a sensation in the arenas of the world, especially as athletes.

Numerous Olympic, World and European Champions in dressage, show jumping and eventing originate from this breed. They are the best ambassadors for the quality and performance of the Hanoverian. As allrounders, our horses also enjoy great popularity as leisure horses.

But even more important than these competition results is the fact that Hanoverian horses are companions in the everyday life for many people. Their rideability and their excellent character make them the ideal leisure partner. In the Hanoverian, performance and hereditary quality go hand in hand. Many stallions have achieved great success in sport and pass on their quality to their offspring. Enjoy the breeding of Hanoverian and Rhineland horses.

Hanoverian Dam lines

Mares out of well-bred, hereditary reliable lines are the most valuable asset of the breeder. The Hanoverian breed in particular offers a large number of excellent dam lines, from which sport horses for the various disciplines, licensed stallions and valuable mares are repeatedly produced.

The origins of Hanoverian breeding

In 1922, the breeders teamed up and founded the “Verband Hannoverscher Warmblutzüchter”, thus creating the basis for a central and uniform processing and assessment of all registered breeding activities. While special importance was placed on using the horses in agriculture in the years between the two World Wars, the Hanoverian breed was reorganized and restructured after the World War II. The Hanoverian breed was once again refined with Trakehnen and thoroughbred horses and developed into what it is today: an excellently to ride, noble, big-framed and correct warmblood horse, appreciated all over the world as a sport and pleasure partner.

The history of the Hanoverian

The beginnings of selective Hanoverian breeding can be traced back to the 16th century. The Hanoverian was bred and raised for agricultural and military purposes. Breeding horses was an essential basis of existence for the farmers. The founding of the Celle State Stud in 1735, introducing the central registration of coverings and foals, had a great influence. At the beginning of the 19th century, thoroughbred and English half-bred stallions were increasingly used to refine the “Hannöversches Pferd”. The breed was consolidated after 1870 under consideration of native lines with the focus being placed on the horses being suitable as coach or military horses. The Hanoverian Studbook was founded during this time in 1888, the predecessor of the Society we know today.
