52nd Elite Foal and Broodmare Auction: Lucky Number 13 – Top Seller Salvatore

Salvatore v.

A total of 89 foals were part of the lot at the Hanoverian Society’s 52nd Elite Foal and Broodmare Auction. At the racetrack grounds in Verden, the top-class young stock showed itself at its best. Leading the way was the colt Salvatore, who left the auction ring bound for the U.S. as the top seller for 34,000 euros. The average price was 7,348 euros.

“The Elite Foal Auction is a successful kickoff for the coming weeks, during which Verden will be at the center of horse breeding and equestrian sports with the Hanoverian Foal Championship, the Herwart von der Decken Show, and – as the international highlight – the FEI WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championships for Young Horses,” said auctioneer Bernd Hickert.

Lot number 13 proved to be a lucky number. There was great international interest in Salvatore by Secret/Don Martillo (breeder and exhibitor: ZG Grobe, Wendeburg). Ultimately, a buyer from the U.S. prevailed over his Spanish competitor and purchased the powerful black colt  from the dam line of Emsbotin for 34,000 euros. Three years ago, his half-brother Symphatico by Segantini had already been the top seller at an online auction during the Verden Foal Spring.

For the second time this year, breeder Friederike Pelzer from Steinhorst had reason to celebrate her auction success in Verden. In May, the Freigeist daughter Fronida P topped the statistics. Now, two foals from the same dam line were sold for 20,000 euros each: Vendero by Venturo/Benicio to a regular customer from Switzerland and Burana by Bonds/De Niro to a customer from Schleswig-Holstein.

Three broodmares were part of the auction lot. The most expensive was the Von Und Zu/Dancier daughter Hann.Pr.A. Vet+ Viva la Vida MR (breeder: Monika Rösemeier-Harns, Großefehn, exhibitor: Esther Harms, Großefehn), who found a new owner in Bavaria for 24,500 euros.

Overall, the 52nd Elite Foal and Broodmare Auction proceeded at a brisk pace. The last foal was sold after just under four and a half hours. About a quarter of the foals were sold to international buyers. Buyers from the U.S. secured the largest share (five), followed by customers from Spain and the United Kingdom (four each).
