After an extraordinary career in eventing, fischerChipmunk FRH is embarking on a new chapter. Michael Jung will no longer include his 18-year-old partner in his plans for the coming season. The Hanoverian is set to retire from competition in good health, at the very peak of his career, and enjoy life at home with the Jung family. “I owe Chipmunk so much,” says Michael Jung.
Born in April 2008 at Dr. Hilmer Meyer-Kulenkampff’s breeding farm in Behlmer, fischerChipmunk FRH had all the qualities needed to excel in eventing. His sire, Contendro, has made a lasting mark on the international eventing scene as a successful sire. Through his dam, Havanna, from the dam line of Farina, his pedigree traces back to Heraldik xx, who became a stamp sire of eventing horses.
Breeder Dr. Hilmer Meyer-Kulenkampff has received numerous honours. The WBFSH named him Breeder of the Year. In 2019, fischerChipmunk FRH’s dam, Havanna (owner: Wolfgang Lutz, Völkersen), was named Hanoverian Mare of the Year, and last year he received the Madeleine Winter-Schulze Award.
Chipmunk FRH was initially trained by Julia Krajewski. Together, they won the Bundeschampionat for five-year-old eventing horses in 2013. This was followed by appearances at the World Championships for Young Eventing Horses, his first German Championships in 2017, and victory in the individual competition at the CHIO Aachen in 2018. That same year, the pair competed at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon.
When Chipmunk FRH joined Michael Jung’s stable, he took on his current competition name, fischerChipmunk FRH. The pair made an immediate impression, finishing second at the CHIO Aachen in 2019. At the European Championships in Luhmühlen, they helped Germany win team gold and claimed individual silver.
In 2021, fischerChipmunk FRH and Michael Jung became German champions. At the Olympic Games, a triggered MIM safety device put paid to their chances of a top result. At the 2022 World Championships in Pratoni del Vivaro, the pair were part of the victorious German team and finished fifth individually.
In recent years, fischerChipmunk FRH has added further highlights to an already remarkable career. In 2024, Jung and his partner won the German Championships before claiming individual Olympic gold in Paris – Michael Jung’s third individual Olympic title. In 2025, they secured their second joint five-star victory in Lexington, followed by team gold and individual silver at the European Championships in Blenheim.
The crowning achievement came with the world title at the World Championships in Aachen’s Soers. Competing on home ground, Michael Jung and his Hanoverian celebrated the greatest triumph of their partnership to date. These achievements have made fischerChipmunk FRH one of the most successful eventing horses in the world.
“Of course, I had already thought about saying goodbye to him after Aachen. But at the time, it simply felt too soon,” Michael Jung said. “We have now decided not to plan him for the coming season, but to let him retire at the absolute peak of his career. We have competed together at so many championships and top-level events. Now I want him to stay fit and well and enjoy many happy years in retirement, out in the field at home with us.”
