New Program in the U.S. and Canada

Recognizing the importance of skillful early training in raising, preparing and marketing young horses for breed inspections, performance tests and sport, The American Hanoverian Society (AHS) and the German Hannoveraner Verband are embarking on a new program for identifying experienced young horse riders, trainers and facilities that will provide such services to Hanoverian breeders in the U.S. and Canada. A listing of applicants approved in a variety of categories will be developed and maintained on the AHS website  and in the Society‘s quarterly magazine The American Hanoverian.

As an initial step in the process, the AHS will invite qualified members and other professionals in the equine community to apply for inclusion in one or more of the service categories listed below. This identification listing/service will include an application fee to help defer the costs of verification, and will involve a comprehensive on-site inspection.

The Hannoveraner Verband is also very excited about this new endeavor and will support it by sending Jörg-Wilhelm Wegener, a respected member of the their auction selection team, to the U.S. and Canada for a number of weeks in April or May to visit the facilities and riders/trainers that submit applications. As an incentive, applicants will benefit from a reduction in fee requirements during this initial tour by Jörg Wegener. AHS and Canadian Hanoverian breeders expect this program will help meet a frequently voiced need to identify places and persons that can properly prepare young warmblood horses and create a network to enhance the marketing of domestically-bred Hanoverians. This listing will also provide an inexpensive way for different facilities and trainers all over North America to advertise their services directly to a targeted audience.
At present, the service categories that a trainer or facility could apply for identification are as follows:

  1. Young Horse Raiser
  2. Rudimentary Breaking - Under Saddle Starter
  3. Mare Inspection In-Hand Preparation
  4. Mare Performance Testing Preparation
  5. Free Jumping Training
  6. Stallion Licensing Preparation
  7. Dressage Trainer - Young Horse and USEF Levels
  8. Dressage Trainer - FEI Levels
  9. Jumper Trainer - Young Horse and USEF Levels
  10. Jumper Trainer - FEI levels
  11. Hunter Traine
  12. Eventing Trainer
  13. Sales and Consignment
  14. Foaling and/or Mare Breeding/Teasing
  15. Stallion Collection - Fresh Cooled or Frozen

Each of these categories will have its own checklist, which will be used to verify certain minimum standards necessary for listing. A detailed application form will soon be available on the AHS website or directly from the central office.
