The first part of the Canada inspections took place in conjunction with the US-tour of the American Hanoverian Society (AHS) in middle of July when Dr. Ludwig Christmann from the Hannoveraner Verband in Verden visited the provinces British Columbia and Manitoba.
In BC all in all four mares were presented and eight foals registered on two farms in the spectacular surrounding of Vancouver Island (Rayelle Aarbo’s place, Parksville) and the coastal mountains around Pemberton, where the Hanoverian Stud Dreamcatcher Meadows is located.
All four mares were Non Hanoverian – Baden-Württemberg, Holstein, Rhineland and thoroughbred. The thoroughbred could not be accepted, the other three were very useful mares with strengths in different areas – the appealing types combined with correctness of the Rhineland mare by Rockford (Rayelle Aarbo) and the Holsteiner mare by Dolany (Theo Peters, Aldergrove) and the powerful movement, combined with athleticism of the Diamond-Hit daughter from Baden-Württemberg (Heidi Schurmann, Abbotsford). The foals were by the stallions Lokomotion (4), Sir Donnerhall (2), Ampere and Goldwing. Although the overall quality was really pleasing, three colts stood out with the breedings Ampere/Grusus (Rayelle Aarbo), Sir Donnerhall/Warkant (Sheryal-Ann Dodd, Langley) and Lokomotion out of the thoroughbred mare Delta Dear Deer (Dreamcatcher Meadows). Like last year it was again amazing, how consistent the get of Lokomotion is. He passes on excellent temperament and a really good type with a beautiful head and an attractive bay coat and he goes very well with thoroughbred mares.
The main inspection at Dreamcatcher Meadows was changed from Tuesday morning to Monday evening as Jill Giese and John Dingle, the farm owners had invited some guests. So overall about 30 people came, who attentively followed a talk about the breeding program and selection criteria of the Hannoveraner Verband. A barbecue with good food and good conversations concluded a very nice evening.
The next stop was Neepawa, Manitoba, about 2 hours west of Winnipeg. The inspection took Platz on the very well maintained Crooked Creek Farm of Nancy Schmidt, who together with Kathleen Sulz stands the stallions Autocrat and Wolkentanz II, although they are operating two different farms, which are very close to each other. Unfortunately there were some last minute cancellations of some mares and one foal, so only one mare and four foals were presented. The mare Ravenna was an Oldenburg by Radjah Z (tracing back to Ramiro) out of a mare by Fernet Branca by Furioso II, presented by Nancy Schmidt. She could be accepted into the main studbook. The four foals were by Wolkentanz II (3) and Schröder. It was especially nice to see the first get of Wolkentanz II in Canada. He proved what we already knew from Germany: he passes on his own presence, excellent type and good movement. The best foal was by him from a mare by Simply Spruce Meadows, bred by Kathleen Sulz.
Also here the inspection was watched by a number of very interested guests and was followed by a nice get together with great food.
The inspections in BC and Manitoba were not big in numbers this year but it is important to keep them going. There are very dedicated Hanoverian breeders in both provinces with good horses and a growth in numbers can only happen, when we visit these places on a regular base so breeders know there is reliabity in the conduct of the inspections.
