The Hanoverian breeding area extended over the states of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein, the city states Hamburg and Bremen as well as smaller parts of territories, which border on these states. In 2007 it was determined by the board, that the field of activity will enclose entire Germany and other  countries.

There are seven so called "Bezirksverbaende", which means district societies: Braunschweig, Hannover, Lueneburg, Osnabrueck/Emsland, Ostfriesland, Stade  and Hessen. For breeders from abroad a district society "International" was created.

The district societies are an intermediate position between the Hanoverian Verband and the local breeding clubs. The organize from time to time (every 8th year) the Louis-Wiegels-Schau, the mare show of the districts.
