The Hanoverian Stallion Licensing featured an impressive, top-class crop of young stallions. 46 two-and-a-half-year olds were licensed. Nine dressage and seven show jumping stallions were nominated Premium stallion. Euro 64,826 was the average price achieved at the stallion sales. “We saw lots of powerful young stallions, selected according to strict performance criteria,” breeding manager Dr. Werner Schade sums up the three-day-event that attracted spectators from all over the world.

The performances of the show jumping stallions were especially captivating.  Compared to the preceding years, there was an increasing quantity and quality of jumper stallions presented in Verden. The tremendous interest of potential customers in the dressage stallions confirmed the pre-selection of the licensing committee. They displayed convincing movements, combined with first-class competition pedigrees. Most expensive horse was a Premium stallion by Fidertanz/De Niro (breeder and exhibitor: Thomas Heuer, Bienenbüttel), sold at Euro 333,000 to a wellknown stallion station in Lower Saxony. “The liver chestnut opens up remarkable horizons for dressage horses,“ breeding manager Dr. Werner Schade said. Following an exciting and emotional bidder’s duel, the top-priced jumper stallion by Lord Z/Weinberg (breeder and exhibitor: Norbert Nowak, Haren) was purchased at Euro 200,000 on behalf of a customer from Dubai.

20 of the 46 licensed Hanoverian stallions will leave Germany. Apart from Austria (four stallions), there were lots of customers from Spain, the United States, Belgium, Russia and Norway. Not only German private stallion owners purchased young stallions for their service stations, but also three German National State Studs.

The auction on non-licensed stallions was also satisfactory. 42 Hanoverian horses were sold at an average of Euro 19,750. Top-priced horse was a dark-bay son by Sir Donnerhall/Rotspon (breeder: Torben and Hermann Schulze, Steinhorst, exhibitor: Rudolf Zajons, Wittorf), purchased by an approved training and show stable in Lower Saxony.

The Hanoverian Stallion of the Year 2009 was nominated prior to the auction: Celle State Stud Stallion Escudo I. The Espri/Arkansas-son was bred by Allmer Knoop from Loxstedt. Arno and Sabine Knoop were honoured with a highly remunerative cheque and the Wohlklang-statuette. R+V/VTV insurance company supported the Stallion of the Year-award again.
